Are you VAT registered?

If yes, the 5% VAT you charge isn't your money, and VAT on your purchases and platform fees comes back as input VAT.

About this tool

What is this profit calculator?
A free tool for UAE sellers to work out profit per unit, margin, markup, ROI, break-even price and monthly profit for products sold on noon, Amazon.ae, their own Shopify store, in trading and wholesale, or for services.
How does it handle VAT?
When you are VAT registered, output VAT is taken out of the price before revenue, and VAT on purchases and platform fees is treated as recoverable input VAT. When you are not, there is no output VAT and VAT you are charged is a cost. VAT amounts are rounded to the fils per unit.
How does it relate to Fatura Go?
The calculator estimates. Fatura Go records your actual invoices, bills and expenses, tracks stock per product, and gives you profit and loss and VAT 201 figures from real transactions.

Common questions

How do I calculate my profit per unit on noon or Amazon.ae?
Start from the price the customer pays. If you are VAT registered, take out the 5% VAT first (price ÷ 1.05 for a VAT-inclusive price), because it belongs to the FTA. From what is left, subtract the marketplace commission, the FBN or FBA fulfilment fee, storage, ads, the cost of returns, and your landed cost: purchase price, inbound shipping, customs and packaging. What remains is your profit per unit.
Should I calculate margin on the VAT-inclusive price?
No. When you are VAT registered, the 5% VAT in each sale is collected for the FTA, so it is not revenue. Margin worked out on the VAT-inclusive price looks higher than it really is. This calculator shows both numbers when they differ, so you can see the gap.
Can I reclaim VAT on marketplace fees and purchases?
If you are VAT registered, the VAT a marketplace charges on its fees and the VAT a local supplier charges on your stock is input VAT, which you can generally recover in your VAT return when you hold a valid tax invoice and meet FTA conditions. If you are not registered, that VAT is simply a cost, and the calculator adds it to your costs.
What is the difference between margin, markup and ROI?
Margin is profit as a share of revenue excluding VAT. Markup is how much your net price is above your landed cost, as a share of that cost. ROI is profit divided by landed cost: what each dirham tied up in stock earns you per unit sold.
Where do the noon and Amazon.ae fee values come from?
They are example values only, labelled with the date they were set. Marketplace fees depend on category, size, programme and promotions, and they change. Check your seller panel and replace the examples with your own fees: every field is editable.
How is the break-even price calculated?
It is the lowest price, on the same VAT basis as the price you entered, at which profit per unit is zero or more, with your percentage fees, ads, discounts and fixed per-unit costs all applied. If percentage fees and ads add up to the whole price, no price breaks even and the calculator says so.
Do I need to register for VAT?
Registration is mandatory once taxable supplies and imports exceed AED 375,000 over the previous 12 months, or are expected to in the next 30 days. If you are not registered, the calculator warns you when your monthly sales put you above that pace. Use the VAT registration checker for your own case.
